Notes

  • Remember, this Sunday is led by band and praise team ONLY.

  • There are NO WEDNESDAY REHEARSALS next Wednesday, June 11, due to VBS.

  • Reminder: in the month of June, there will be no Wednesday choir rehearsals. However, band/orchestra/praise team will rehearse on Wednesdays from 6:00-7:00p, with the exception of June 11. Full worship ministry (choir, orchestra, band, praise team) will lead every Sunday in the month of June, with the exception of June 8, which will be led by band/praise team only due to VBS.

  • In the month of July, there will be no Wednesday rehearsals at all. Each Sunday in July will be led by band/praise team only. Our worship ministry interest meeting will be July 30, and we will be back in action on August 3.

Prayer requests

  • Mike Seal, who was in a motorcycle accident yesterday. He has some scrapes, bruises, and damage to his left knee.

  • Tracy Bruneau, just diagnosed with breast cancer.

  • Betty Speck (soprano), recovering at home after rehab.

  • Jean/Joe Bargovan, dealing with several health issues.

An Extra

Next week, the Southern Baptist Convention will hold their yearly meeting, this year in Dallas. Stevens Street is a participating member of the Southern Baptist Convention (or SBC), which is a body of like-minded churches that join together for the purpose of missions, theological education, and church resources, among other things.

If you’d like to explore a little more about what the SBC does, and why we’re a part of it, check out this page.

The SBC is far from perfect, but I am thankful to be a part of it for at least three reasons:

  • The SBC is the largest missionary-sending entity in the history of the world. We currently support around 4,000 full time missionaries around the world, several of them we know by name because we help them directly at Stevens Street!

  • The SBC directly funds and operates six seminaries to train pastors and church leaders. Members of SBC churches receive a massive tuition discount. This makes it less cost-prohibitive for students while still retaining top-notch, theologically-conservative faculty. Personally, I have benefited greatly from two of our SBC seminaries.

  • The SBC models cooperation between churches in a way that I think honors the Lord. There are over 50,000 churches in the SBC, and we are all different! However, we find common ground in the essentials (expressed in our confessional document, the Baptist Faith and Message 2000), and we partner together to do things that we could never do on our own.

Have a great weekend, and I’ll see you Sunday.
Andy
