Notes

  • Thankfully, our worship center remodel projects wrapped up at about 5:15p yesterday! I’m very much looking forward to worshipping with our church family Sunday—Lord willing, our people will see better and hear better as the Gospel is proclaimed. Let’s pray that the Holy Spirit remodels our hearts as well, so that we can hear the Word better with our spirits, too.

  • Save the date: to wrap up the Spring semester, we are going to have a “Night of Worship in the Psalms“ on Sunday evening, May 4 at 5:00p, involving kids and students as well. The Wednesday rehearsal on April 30 will be an extended rehearsal until 8:00 to help prep for this service.

Prayer requests

  • Karen Hall (alto), who broke her foot.

  • Betty Speck (soprano), having lots of pain from polymyalgia.

  • Glee Miller and family. Mr. Richard passed away Wednesday night.

  • Drucilla Ray (alto), who fell and hurt her back.

An Extra

As our hearts are turned especially toward the passion of Christ this weekend (Good Friday, Resurrection Sunday), I think it’s good to reflect on some “basic” and essential truths of our faith. Why did Jesus come to the earth? Why did he have to die? What impact or promise does that historical event have for us?

Scripture gives us a wonderful summary of answers to these questions in John 3:16—arguably the most well-known verse in the Bible. So well-known, in fact, that I think we can tend to quote it mindlessly and fail to take into the account its universe-shaking, eternity-shaping importance.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
— John 3:16

This article by Douglas Sean O’Donnell helpfully unpacks the wonderful truths in this verse. It’s a short and easy read for your Resurrection Sunday weekend. Praise God that Jesus Christ came to save sinners, and praise God that He is risen today!

Have a great weekend, and I’ll see you Sunday.
