Worship Ministry Weekly Update

Happy Thursday!

Here’s what you need to know this week.

This Sunday

Full worship ministry is leading. Call time for instrumentalists, praise team, and A/V is 8:00am on stage. Choir meets in the choir room at 8:35am.

The sermon text for the day comes from Matthew 28:16-20, and Pastor Scott will be preaching.

We’re singing Blessed Assurance, God So Loved, In Christ Alone (with Solid Rock), and Jesus Saves.

Notes

  • Schedule reminder: we will have no worship ministry rehearsals next Wednesday (Oct. 30). We will be having our church Fall Fest during that time.

  • Stevens Street will have a float in the Christmas parade this year (Dec.14). Eric Edgemon will be taking the lead on this project, and if you’d like to help, you can contact him at Edgemon.eric@gmail.com or 931-265-4215.

  • Christmas in Cookeville has been scheduled for December 13 and December 15. Please mark your calendars and plan to be a part! It’s going to be great. The week of the services, we will have three important rehearsals. Please plan to attend these as well:

    • Sunday afternoon, Dec. 8 (time TBD): band/orchestra only

    • Tuesday evening, Dec. 10 (6-8p): full rehearsal

    • Wednesday evening, Dec. 11 (6-8p): full rehearsal

Prayer requests

  • Jack Dillon (Grace’s husband) in the hospital with heart issues.

  • Reagan Bagci, continued prayer for healing and further treatment.

  • Ronnie Franz, friend of Mike/Shauna Buckner, diagnosed with brain tumor and seeking next steps.

  • Ricky Gentry (former choir member and brother to Kim Hanna), sick at home.

An Extra

Here’s a great article on corporate worship services from John Piper with some absolutely excellent nuggets of wisdom for us as we plan and lead worship. Notice these main points:

  • Worship should include truth, and appropriate response to that truth (delight!)

  • Worship should primarily be the act of the congregation, not just the pros on stage.

  • We seek musical excellence in order to not be distracting.

  • Songs needs to be singable, especially by men.

  • Preaching is an act of worship itself!

See you Sunday,
Andy
