Worship Ministry Weekly Update

Happy Thursday!

Here’s what you need to know this week.

This Sunday

Full worship ministry is leading. Call time for instrumentalists, praise team, and A/V is 8:00am on stage. Choir meets in the choir room at 8:35am.

The sermon text for the day comes from Matthew 25:1-13, and Pastor Scott will be preaching.

We’re singing Sing Praise (O Holy God), Come Lord Jesus (Even So Come), Holy Forever, and On That Day.

Notes

  • CDs for the Fall anthems are now available in the choir room. Be sure to pick one up!

  • Would you help us with a little recruiting? We are in need of a few people to serve in A/V for the 9:00 service. We try to schedule those volunteers in the service they normally attend so they don’t miss a life group, so we’re primarily looking for people in the 9:00 worship service. If you can think of someone that might be a good fit to serve there, feel free to pass along their name to me so we can connect.

  • Christmas in Cookeville has been scheduled for the weekend of December 15. Please mark your calendars.

Prayer requests

  • Kathy Dyer (Billy’s wife), with kidney issues and a knee replacement coming up in November.

  • Terri Ritter, recovering from arm surgery yesterday.

  • Ida, asking for prayer about school and life.

  • Reagan Bagci, having knee procedure on Oct.16.

An Extra

Ask Pastor John is a podcast by John Piper where he answers a number of questions from listeners about the Bible, theology, and Christian living. I thought today’s podcast episode was interesting and helpful as we think about worship and the interplay between our intellect and emotions.

Two big takeaway statements from this:

  1. True worship should be fervent and zealous—our genuine, full response to the truth of God.

  2. Emotions, in and of themselves, are not proof of worship. Intensity and physical sensation can be brought about music and hype. We must be careful to ensure our people are stirred by the truth.

See you Sunday,
Andy
