Worship Ministry Weekly Update

Happy Thursday!

I pray you all were safe during the storms last night. Please let me know if you have a need that we can help with.

Here’s what you need to know this week:

This Sunday

Full worship ministry is leading - choir, band, and orchestra. Call time for instrumentalists, praise team, and A/V is 8:00am on stage. Call time for choir is 8:30am in the choir room.

The sermon text for the day comes from Titus 3, and Pastor Scott will be preaching. We will have several high school students leading worship with us.

Since we missed rehearsal this week, I’d like to push Praise to the Lord the Almighty, Amen to a later date, and sub in another congregational song. This will also give the students another song to sing, which will be a great experience for them.

We’re singing Glorious Day, Praise the Lord (Psalm 150), Only a Holy God, and Jesus Thank You.

Notes

  1. We only a have a few “normal” Wednesday night rehearsals left before Summer hits, so please make every effort to attend each one. Remember, there are no choir rehearsals in June, so we need to polish all the choir anthems now to get ready!

  2. On Sunday, May 26, we will have only one service at 10:00a. Call time for band/orchestra/praise team/AV will be 8:45a, and choir will be at 9:30a.

  3. Beginning June 12, the week after VBS, Wednesday night rehearsals will consist of band/orchestra/praise team only at 6:00p. Choir will not meet on Wednesdays, but will continue to lead worship on Sundays.

Prayer requests

  • Beverley Nash (choir), having gastrointestinal issues and is seeing a specialist on May 16.

  • Kim Hanna, recovering from total knee replacement surgery.

  • Charles Taylor (orchestra member), with weakness in his legs and balance problems due to Parkinson’s.

  • Kathleen Marshall, undergoing chemo treatments.

An Extra

Last Wednesday in choir, we discussed biblical theology, contrasting it specifically with systematic theology. Put simply, biblical theology is the task of reading a passage of Scripture in light of its place in the storyline of Scripture. The song we sang last week, Christ the True and Better, is a good example of using biblical theology to highlight the “types” in Scripture that point us to Jesus.

Here’s a great article about how biblical theology can change your Bible reading. Check it out! Here are some highlights:

  1. “Biblical theology reads the Bible on its own terms.” We need to read past our concerns to understand the concerns of the biblical authors.

  2. “Scripture has a divine author.” The Bible is breathed out by God in one unified message and shared worldview.

  3. Scripture is full of various types. “Typology thus involves historical correspondences between people, events, and institutions in patterns that recur across the Scriptures with escalating significance until fulfilled in Christ.”

I am so thankful for you all. I’ll see you Sunday.
- Andy
