Happy Thursday!
Here’s what you need to know this week:
This Sunday
Full worship ministry is leading - choir, band, and orchestra. Call time for instrumentalists, praise team, and A/V is 8:00am on stage. Call time for choir is 8:30am in the choir room. It’s Multigen Sunday, and we get to lead worship with kids and students!
The sermon text for the day comes from Acts 3, and Jesse Haywood will be preaching.
We’re singing God So Loved, Amazing Grace, Come Unto Jesus, and Turn Your Eyes.
Notes
Sunday morning will look a little different with kids choirs and students joining us in the choir. Please be in the choir room at the normal time (8:30) for warm-up. We will come on stage a little early (8:50) to have time to set our extra singers into the loft. It’s going to be a great day!
Schedule reminder with Spring Break coming up: we will have rehearsal next Wednesday (3/6), but we will not have rehearsal the following Wednesday (3/13).
Last week we had one of our periodic reminders about the dress code for worship ministry. If you missed it, you can find the highlights here. As always, thank you for your help in this.
Prayer requests
Betty Speck (soprano), whose sister Donna passed away on Tuesday. Arrangements will be in Livingston.
Glenda Edgemon (Eric’s mother), dealing with aphasia and just diagnosed with vascular dementia.
Emily Leopold’s (alto) brother and his wife, who were planning to adopt a newborn girl. The birth parents have changed their minds, and are trying to prove they can be fit parents. It’s a difficult situation for everyone involved.
Heather Roach, a church member who is a full-time caregiver to her husband, Henry. Heather is struggling with sleep deprivation and not feeling well.
Praise: Reagan Bagci’s scans came back clear. He has allograft surgery scheduled for March 11.
An Extra
In light of our Multigen Sunday coming up this Sunday, here’s an interesting article from my worship professor at Southern Seminary about the changing landscape of training worship leaders. When it comes to helping churches find skilled musicians to lead corporate worship music, things are the not the same as they were twenty years ago. What changed, and why is that important?
I think the most important part of his article comes down to one sentence toward the end: 2034 just called. They wish we would train more leaders.
Investing regularly in kids choirs, student bands, private lessons, music education, and Multigen Sundays can be hard, complicated, expensive, and at times frustrating work. In fact, it would be much easier to just not worry about it; our Sunday services would still continue just fine!
However, training young worship leaders is planting seeds that future generations will harvest. You may not live long enough to see it, but rest assured that God uses His Church to help raise up the next generation of servants who will plan and lead Christ-exalting, Gospel-centered, Scripture-saturated worship services. I love being a part of that mission, and I pray Stevens Street continues to work hard at it.
As always, let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I am praying you have a great weekend and that you come to church Sunday ready to lead our church in treasuring Christ together!
