Notes

  • Sunday, March 2 is our church’s commissioning of Kingdom Community Church. On that day, we will only have one service at 10:00a and no life groups. Call time will be 8:45a for band, orchestra, and praise team. Choir will meet in the choir room at 9:30a.

  • February is a great time to invite someone to come check out worship ministry. We’ve already had a few guests with us this year—who else can you invite to join us?

  • Anthems coming up:

    • This Sunday: Washed Away

    • Feb. 16: Savior

    • Feb. 23: Is He Worthy

    • Mar. 2: This Blood

    • Mar. 9: Alleluia, Amen!

Prayer requests

  • Reagan Bagci, who will be having another surgery to replace his allograft.

  • Betty Speck, started cancer radiation.

  • Patsy Howell (Harold Howell’s widow) having brain surgery Monday to remove a tumor.

  • Emily Leopold’s brother, seeking to adopt.

An Extra

One of my recent assignments for school was to read and review Tremper Longman III’s book, Immanuel in Our Place: Seeing Christ in Israel’s Worship. This is a great, accessible (not overly academic and footnoted) book to help you piece together how the structures and priestly theology (especially found in Leviticus) point to Jesus as their ultimate fulfillment.

Longman breaks down Israel’s worship into four main categories, then specifically explains how Christ fulfills them:

  • Sacred Space (Eden, altars, tabernacle, temple)

  • Sacred Acts (sacrificial system)

  • Sacred People (priests and Levites)

  • Sacred Time (festivals and holy days)

Reading something like this points us to the unfathomable wisdom of God and leads us to worship Christ as the person through whom we are made right with God and in whom we can fellowship with God any time, any place.

If you are doing a deep dive into the Old Testament or if you are looking for a book to help you make sense of some of the difficult passages in Leviticus, I’d recommend picking this one up. You are always welcome to grab it from my shelf to borrow.

See you Sunday,
Andy
