Worship Ministry Weekly Update

Happy Thursday!

Here’s what you need to know this week:

This Sunday

Full worship ministry is leading - choir, band, and orchestra. Call time for instrumentalists, praise team, and A/V is 8:00am on stage. Call time for choir is 8:30am in the choir room.

The sermon text for the day comes from Ephesians 4:17-24, and Pastor Scott will be preaching.

We’re singing Glorious Day, Only a Holy God, It is Well with My Soul, and Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me.

Notes

  1. Reminder: the code to enter the choir room area is 2064. Please do not prop the door open.

  2. Be sure to pick up your Spring listening CD in the choir room if you haven’t already.

  3. As the new year begins, be sure to remember to check in with your connect group if you have special prayer requests or if you are going to miss a rehearsal. If you need a reminder of who is in your group, you can check out this spreadsheet or just reach out to me or April.

Prayer requests

  • Praise: Joshua and Amy Lou Gentry welcomed a healthy baby boy today. Everyone is doing great.

  • Joel Wood (former Stevens Street Interim pastor), recovering from a stroke.

  • Dennis Baker, recovering from knee replacement surgery.

  • Reagan Bagci (along with Ali and Michelle). Reagan’s next milestone is an allograft surgery at St. Jude on March 11.

An Extra

In choir last night, we discussed research regarding music aptitude and importance of early childhood music experiences. Here’s a good paragraph summary of the discussion from the Gordon Institute:

Research indicates that music aptitude is developmental during the early years of life. A child’s aptitude at birth is innate, but can fluctuate until about age nine according to the richness and diversity of musical experiences the child undergoes. After age nine, one cannot expect to achieve in music beyond the limit of one’s stabilized music aptitude. It is essential that children receive lots of high quality informal guidance and formal instruction in music in order to best realize their potential for musical fulfillment throughout life. Informal music experience prior to age five is particularly important.

I love how Stevens Street helps support a “richness and diversity of musical experiences” for kids through kids choirs and our School of Performing Arts. It’s sowing seed that will blossom later on and bless churches all over as they grow up to serve in local congregations.

As always, let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I am praying you have a great weekend and that you come to church Sunday ready to lead our church in treasuring Christ together!
