Notes

  • A few upcoming schedule reminders: Choir will sing this Sunday, November 19. We will not have Wednesday rehearsals next Wednesday, November 22. Choir and orchestra will not lead worship on Sunday, November 26.

  • A quick note regarding parking at church—if you can, I’d like to encourage you to save some of the closer parking spaces for our senior adults, less mobile members, and families with small children. This is just an easy way to serve church members who have a little harder time getting to the building, especially as we approach the colder months.

  • As we announced a few weeks ago, please mark your calendar for a special worship ministry end-of-the-year banquet in the Fellowship Hall on Monday evening, December 18. I think this will be something different that we’ll all enjoy, getting to eat and fellowship together (and have a little fun, of course).

  • Reminder: our Christmas worship service is Sunday evening, December 10. In addition to that evening, the only other extra time commitments for you will be two extended Wednesday rehearsals on November 29 and December 6. Please plan to stay until 8:00 on those two evenings.

Prayer Requests

  • Brian & Jennifer Ledbetter’s son (BJ), having eye surgery on Monday. Brian’s brother-in-law (Randy) is also having tests to see if his body is rejecting his lung transplant.

  • Mille (Debbie Baker’s sister-in-law) with terminal cancer and treatments.

  • Dennis Baker, upcoming knee replacement surgery.

  • A co-worker of Pat Bowman, whose 10 year old daughter needs immediate surgery for intestinal cancer.

  • Chuck Pritchard, having knee replacement surgery today.

  • Our Christmas worship service on December 10. Pray for the lost who will be in attendance.

  • Reagan Bagci and family (Ali, Michelle).

  • Pastor Scott, as he prepares to preach the Word on Sunday.

  • Looking to pray something specific for our church? Pray Ephesians 3:16-19.

An Extra

Here’s an excerpt of a book I’m reading that draws the connection between theology and worship. The author makes the case that theology (the study of God) is the working out of how we can worship and enjoy God rightly. Theology gives us the vocabulary with which we can worship God.

The gospel proclaims reconciliation […] —first to God and then to his creation. Christians are called to enter into the chorus of praise that is true worship, responding in the Spirit to the revelation of the saving God in Jesus Christ. Theology is all about knowing how to sing the song of redemption to know when to shout, when to mourn, when to be silent and when to hope. But in order to enjoy the song and sing it well, we must learn the words and the music.
