WEEKLY UPDATE FOR THE WORD
This week, I want to discuss our reading plan.
One of the first things people ask me whenever I discuss a reading plan is why aren’t we reading the entire Bible. The plan we will be using is the F260 plan and does not cover every verse of the Bible.
Our goal is to help people develop spiritual disciplines like daily Bible reading. Our goal is not for everyone to say at the end of a year that they have read the entire Bible. Reading the entire Bible is a great thing to do, but that is not our focus. For some reason, when trying to read the entire Bible, it creates a checklist mentality. The focus becomes making sure one reads so many verses and chapters a day instead of just focusing on what God is saying the passages. It can create a mindset that people feel like they have fallen behind if they miss a day or two and as a result, some get discouraged, overwhelmed, and even quit because they feel like they cannot keep up the same pace as everyone else.
There are so many people in our church who don’t read their Bible on a regular basis and we want to help them take steps toward doing that. If they aren’t reading it regularly, we don’t want them shifting from not reading it to reading 12 chapter a day. That can feel very overwhelming! But if we can get people to read 1-2 chapter a day, they begin to realize that they can do it. It’s not about the quantity read, but the quality of how it was read.
I’m excited about so many people starting the practice of reading their Bible daily. It’s an important step, one of many, in being a disciple for Christ.
On August 2nd, we will hand out reading plans to our church body. My hope is you will encourage everyone in your Life Group to read it and see the benefit of everyone reading it together. I truly believe that God is going to do some great things in the lives of our people as they focus on the same passage for the personal reading, the weekly message, their Life Group material, and even their D-Group readings.
Please be in prayer that God will use this time to help all of us grow in our relationship with Him and that we will become the disciples He desires for us to be!
Next week, I will share more about the memory verses our church will be memorizing together.
PLEASE EMPTY THE METAL CABINETS
Just a quick reminder that if you have a metal cabinet in your classroom, please empty it by THIS SUNDAY. Our goal is to remove them from the classrooms the following week. If you need a place to store anything for your group, it can be placed in the Life Group Resource Closet at the end of the C hallway.
NEW ROOM LOCATIONS FOR LIFE GROUPS
Don’t forget that 9a Life Groups will move to their new locations on Sunday, June 28th. Due to recent growth, our student ministry will begin using the entire G building on Sunday mornings for Life Groups. Our CYAM groups will move into classroom in the C hallway of our main building.
Moving on July 28th will allow us to get everyone settled in their new locations before students and our CYAM move. It also prevents us from having too many people searching for new locations on Promotion Sunday (August 2nd for our kids, students, and our CYAM).
UPDATED CARE CENTER NEEDS (MAY)
