(Just click/tap on the Scripture to read it right on your computer or mobile device!)

week 1: Learning about Prayer

Spend this week doing an inventory of your prayer life to see if your prayers are in line with the Model Prayer. Each Bible passage this week will be about prayer, in general. Ask the Lord to reveal areas of hypocrisy that may exist in your life. Acknowledge and confess your sin and ask the Holy Spirit to purify your motives. Make a commitment to Jesus that you will spend time with him privately each day over the next 40 days. Ask him to work in your life in a way that leads to true righteousness. Ask Jesus to teach you to pray.

Week 2: Prayers of Adoration; "hallowed be your name"

This week you will focus your prayers upon God and his character by praying prayers of praise and adoration to Him. This week make an effort to exclusively focus your prayers only upon God and not upon yourself. Don’t ask for anything. Just praise God for his faithfulness, goodness, love, mercy, holiness, power, and perfection. Each day you will read a Bible verse about each of these attributes (characteristics) and will pray prayers of adoration related to each attribute.

Week 3: Prayer of Mission; "your kingdom come, your will be done"

Last week we learned to praise and adore God verbally in prayer. This should lead to us telling others how much God is to be adored. Verbalizing God’s greatness directly to Him helps us to practice telling others about the great God we serve. A praying disciple is a missional disciple. Our prayers are to reflect an urgency of seeing God’s Kingdom expanded to all nations, tribes, peoples, and tongues. This week, focus your prayers upon God’s Kingdom and the things that lead to God’s Kingdom being expanded on the earth. Your goal this week is to only pray for things such as:  people to be saved, the Gospel to be spread, God’s glory to be seen upon the earth,  God’s church to be successful, un-reach people groups, missionaries/church planters, etc.

Week 4: Prayers of provision; "give us...our daily bread"

This week we will learn to pray prayers related to God’s provision. As people, we are accustomed to “asking God for help”. This is perfectly godly as long as we pray correctly and in faith. This week pray for God’s provision after each Bible reading but don’t forget to pray prayers of thankfulness for all his abundant blessings!

Week 5: Prayers of Restoration; "forgive us...as we also have forgiven..."

Prayers of restoration and forgiveness powerfully represent the Gospel in our lives. This week you will spend time praying for God’s forgiveness or praying to forgive others who have hurt you. Forgiveness is a very difficult topic for some. Yet forgiveness is critical to the message of the Gospel. When we know and experience God’s forgiveness, and when we offer that forgiveness to others, true change will take place in our hearts.

WEEK 6: Prayers of Guidance and Protection; "lead us...DELIVER US"

There is a cosmic battle talking place between the kingdom of this world and the Kingdom of God. Though we know God’s Kingdom cannot be overtaken, we also know the battle is real. This battle is happening around us and IN us. Godly men in the Bible prayed for God to lead, guide, and direct them. This week you will pray for God to guide you. Only you know the specific areas of your personal life where you need God’s guidance. Use the scripture guide to ask God to help you to make decisions in life that are according to His will.
