Worship Ministry

Worship Choir & Orchestra

The Worship Choir and Orchestra is the primary worship-leading team at SSBC, and it feeds all other musical activities. Very simply, the Worship Choir and Orchestra is a large group of lead worshipers whose role is to lead authentic worship and produce authentic worshipers! For more about the purpose and philosophy of the Worship Choir and Orchestra, see “Explanations and Expectations."

Schedule

The Worship Choir and Orchestra meets on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 pm in the Choir Room, located directly behind the auditorium stage.

Youth Choir

Youth Choir gives students in 7th through 12th grades an opportunity to lend their gifts and talents to lead not only the youth ministry in worship, but the entire body of Christ. The Youth Choir builds on the spiritual and musical foundation established in Children’s Choir by studying more challenging musical concepts and learning about the role of students as worship leaders in the church. The students learn music that is similar to that of the Worship Choir and Orchestra while developing their own musical style.

Schedule

The Youth Choir meets on Sunday afternoons at 4:00 pm in the Choir Room, located directly behind the auditorium stage.

Children’s Choirs

Children’s Choirs are the foundational stage of the Worship Ministry at SSBC. Beginning at age three and continuing through the 6th grade, the preschool and children’s choirs teach carefully designed standards and objectives which will serve as a base for children’s spiritual and musical development.

All Children’s Choirs meet on Sunday evenings at 6:00 pm in the 2nd floor of the C wing, unless otherwise indicated.

Orff Ensemble

The GKC Orff Ensemble is an auditioned placement group that meets on Sunday evenings from 5:00 pm to 5:50 pm in room C102 for any child in grades 1 through 6.

The GKC Orff Ensemble is derived from the Orff Approach (or Orff-Schulwerk) which is a process that focuses on all elements of music education, such as singing, rhythm, harmony, form, sound, color, movement, imitation, exploration, creation, and literacy through voice and various types of musical instruments, just to name a few.

We believe in pursuing excellence in developing skill in giving God our best and using and developing our talents and gifts to glorify Him alone!
The passion, vision, and mission of the GKC Orff Ensemble are to abide by God’s Wrd in reference to Psalm 33:3, which states, “Sing to Him a new song; play skillfully with a shout of joy.” (NKJV)

Audio Visual Team

The AV team facilitates and enhances worship through live audio and video making, recording, and post-production of services. The team also operates lighting and live lyric and video projection.

Duties / Service Areas

House sound: The volunteers involved in house sound are those who facilitate worship by providing the sound mix during the live service. They make sure the sound is evenly balanced throughout the auditorium in a way that maximizes congregational participation. A separate person operates the monitor mix for vocalists and instrumentalists on stage. These people are rarely seen but are crucial to the church’s worship experience.

Lighting/Projection

These volunteers are responsible for displaying the song lyrics on the auditorium screens and operating the lights for each service. As with the house sound, the projections and lighting volunteers play a large behind-the-scenes role in fostering a worshipful environment.

Audio/Video Recording

These volunteers are never seen, because they operate from a completely different room. Their role is vital, though. They are responsible for recording audio for all the services and for recording video for Sunday morning services and special events. They make it possible for members and attendees to access services via CD, DVD, radio, and, in the future, internet.

Anyone can serve with the Audio/Video Team, from the novice to the fully experienced techie. In addition to the responsibilities listed above, SSBC wants to continually expand the ministry of the team in live services, audio and video editing and production, lighting, graphic arts, and more. Whether you have experience in any of these areas or simply want to learn, the Worship Ministry leaders would love to talk with you about being a worship leader on the Audio/Video Team.
