Serving Our Community

The Care Center

SSBC joins with The River Community Church, First Baptist Church, Poplar Grove Baptist Church, and Bangham Heights Baptist Church to serve through The Care Center, which supplies food, clothes, and counseling to needy people in the community. Volunteers can help sort and clean clothes, sort food, or counsel individuals.

To donate clothes to The Care Center, bring your donation to The Care Center, located on the corner of Short Street and Franklin across from Frontier Telecommunications, and leave it at the drop-off behind the building. To donate food, bring your donation to The Care Center on a Tuesday or Thursday between 11:00 am and 12:00 pm. The Care Center does not accept donations of furniture. For more information please contact The Care Center at 520-4881.

Outreach Visitation

Outreach visitation involves visiting the homes of first-time guests to a SSBC worship service, as well as going to see people who have requested a visit. These visits can encourage guests in their walk with Christ and their search for a church and can help meet the needs of people who have asked for a visit. The people involved in serving through outreach visitation may also share the gospel with people in a door-to-door style. They meet at Building GA every Tuesday night at 5:45 pm.

Lighthouse Christian Camp

Lighthouse is a camp for disadvantaged kids, i.e. kids with less than ideal home lives. Lighthouse also serves children in its boys’ home and girls’ home and helps support widows in its home for widows. Volunteers to serve at camp and in the various homes are always needed and appreciated. See the “Present Needs and Opportunities” page for information about current opportunities to serve at Lighthouse Christian Camp or visit their website at http://lighthousechristiancamp.com.

These men are experts in auto mechanics, painting, landscaping, and other areas and offer their services free of charge to individuals in need, specifically single moms, widows, people who are sick or injured, and those who cannot afford professional help.
