Needs and Opportunities
Listed below are the current needs and opportunities to serve in various ministries in which SSBC is involved.
Youth
Wednesday evenings: Fusion needs “Connectors/Encouragers” – men and women who connect with students who come to the mid-week meeting. No training is necessary for this job, but a willingness to interact with students and make a consistent time commitment on Wednesday evenings is important.
Sunday mornings: Fusion needs male and female co-leaders for both meeting times (9:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.). These men and women aid the current leaders in facilitating discussion of God’s truth among the students and in helping the students apply this truth to their lives. Volunteers in this area also try to contact students who have missed several times, follow up with first-time guests and encourage students to join a LifeGroup.
LifeGroups: Fusion needs Group Leaders and Co-leaders. Leaders of student LifeGroups use the training they receive in Leadership Training to guide a group of 8-10 students in Bible study, mission work, group outings and other opportunities that challenge students to put their faith into action. These men and women strive to develop an environment that fosters biblical community through growth, encouragement, care and evangelism. They are also expected to help co-leaders grow in maturity and in the ability to lead a LifeGroup. Co-leaders also complete Leadership Training and assist leaders with leading LifeGroups and developing an environment of biblical community. Co-leaders are expected to be willing to lead a student LifeGroup in the future.
Other opportunities to serve the youth of SSBC are listed below.
- The Tech Team can use leaders who can train students to use sound and light equipment, schedule students to do the sound and lighting for Wednesday nights and be available to help with Wednesday night tech needs.
- Volunteers can cook, serve and clean up for the Outreach Breakfast held three times a semester.
- Volunteers can lead a group and/or drive for any of the day trips, weekend retreats or the weekend at FUGE for SSBC youth.
- Volunteers can help in the office by writing cards, contacting students and parents, mailing newsletters and more.
College
Sunday mornings: The Mix needs Large Group leaders who will teach and facilitate discussion for all students. Using the curriculum provided, the large group leader makes key points, engages all the table groups in discussion and provides the table group leaders with main points to discuss. The people who have indicated a desire to lead the large group take turns doing so. When not leading the large group, these people serve as table leaders.
The Mix also needs table leaders to lead students in discussion of the Large Group lesson. Table leaders need to prepare and be familiar with the material in order to guide conversations. Table leaders also seek to contact students who have missed several times, follow up with first-time guests and encourage students to join a LifeGroup.
LifeGroups: The Mix needs Group Leaders and Co-leaders. Leaders of student LifeGroups use the teaching they receive in Leadership Training to guide a group of college students in Bible study, mission work, group outings and other opportunities that challenge students to put their faith into action. These men and women strive to develop an environment that fosters biblical community through growth, encouragement, care and evangelism. They are also expected to help co-leaders grow in maturity and in the ability to lead a LifeGroup. Co-leaders also complete Leadership Training and assist leaders in leading LifeGroups and in developing an environment of biblical community. Co-leaders are expected to be willing to lead a student LifeGroup in the future.
