Mature

Vision

Maturing is becoming more Christ-like. It means that our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions are increasingly becoming like those of Christ (Eph. 4:11-13). (To read more on SSBC’s view of maturity, click here.)

As in worship, the maturing process of the believer is demonstrated in two ways. First, maturity takes place in the believer by personally taking responsibility to set aside time for Bible study and prayer. Second, an individual can be helped in his or her desire for growth through the dynamics of LifeGroups. Also, there are books to help believers mature that are recommended by the SSBC church staff. Please visit the Resource page.

Vision: (expanded) Maturing is becoming more Christ-like. It means that our thoughts, feelings, words, and actions are increasingly becoming like those of Jesus (1 Peter 2:21). Maturity does not simply mean knowing a lot about the Bible or being fluent in many concepts of Christianity, though these can be evidences of maturity. Rather, true maturity is when we reflect God’s attributes. How do we become more mature? The essentials for growth in maturity are the same as the essentials for worship. The foundation of maturity is Christ. The more our hearts are focused on Jesus – trusting Him, desiring to please Him, longing to know Him more (Psalm 42:1-2) – the more mature we will become. All true maturity comes from God’s Spirit working in our hearts (John 14:16-17, 26), allowing us to know Him (John 17:3) and helping us reflect Him. The tools we use to know Christ more and therefore become more mature are daily time in God’s Word, prayer, fellowship, and evangelism. These are also the essentials of worship. SSBC provides opportunities in various areas for believers to mature by being involved in the church. The corporate worship services (link - same as above) on Sundays and Wednesdays include prayer, music, and time spent in God’s Word. LifeGroups (link - same as above) help people build relationships and become more mature. Books to help believers mature are recommended on the Resources page (link - same as above), and sermons that were preached at SSBC with in the last several months are also available there.
